We all want to experience the best in our lives. We want the best food for our family. We want the best gadget in the market. We want to experience the best service from our government offices. We all want to experience the best because we don’t settle for anything less.
We also want to excel in our chosen fields. We want to be the best engineer, best teacher, best nurse, best friend and best father. We want to excel in what we are and what we do.
Even God wants us to excel. The pursuit of excellence is both a goal and a mark of spiritual maturity.
Now as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in utmost eagerness, and in our love for you[a]—so we want you to excel also in this generous undertaking. (2 Corinthians 8:7)
Excellence must be rightly motivated by values and motives.
