What is Natural Family Planning?
There are three felt needs of the Couples for today. These are as follows. First, they want family planning. Second, they prefer natural family planning but they need adequate information on fertility awareness and NFP Methods. Third, they want to choose and NFP methods from the six different methods that suits the couple.
Natural Family Planning or NFP guides the proper way of birth control in the perspective of the Roman Catholic Church. This consists of six methods.
1. Basal Body Temperature (BBT)
2. Billings Ovulation Method (BOM)
3. Sympto-Thermal Method (STM)
4. Lactational Amenorrhea Method (LAM) Breastfeeding
5. Standard Days Method (SDM)
6. Two-Days Method (TDM)
Upon presentation of the NFP module to Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, the pontiff quipped, “Simplified methods are simple for simple people,”
There are three kinds of Freedom. These are: Ontological freedom, Civic and political freedom; and Authentic freedom.
Authentic freedom is practiced when we follow our conscience (Gaudium Et Spes, 16). Natural Family Planning is effective and reliable to either avoid or achieve pregnancy. Thus, “The more we promote NFP the sooner contraceptives have a natural death,” said the Archbishop.
FLA Director Fr. Angelia said, “NFP must be a way of life; not just one of the methods –practice it not use it.’
Finally, as a sign of the partnership, the conference was ended with the unveiling of the NFP center logo.
